New Hampshire's nonprofit organizations help make New Hampshire a great place to live.
Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of New Hampshire people, the Foundation awards thousands of grants every year to organizations doing critical work in our communities, and improving quality of life for all. Together, we are doing great things.

What we fund

Through our competitive grant programs, we fund programs and operations of qualified nonprofit organizations that advance health and well-being, environmental protection, education, housing and other basic needs, arts and culture, civic health and economic security.

In addition, through our targeted initiative work, we provide significant funding in the areas of early childhood and family supports; basic needs; behavioral health; civic health; education and career pathways and environment and climate.

Responsive Grants provide a rolling opportunity for nonprofits serving New Hampshire communities — and select bordering communities in Maine and Vermont — to seek timely support for emerging organizational or community needs.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available for one year of support. Funding may be used for operating expenses or specific projects or initiatives tied to addressing a clearly defined organization or community need.

Racial Justice Fund Deadline: Monday, February 16, 2026, 11:59 pm ET

The Racial Justice Fund was established to shift power to community members who’ve suffered harm from living within racially unjust conditions by investing in the leadership, vision, and solutions of organizations working to counter the harmful effects of racial injustice.

The Fund is led by a Community Design Team, which has prioritized the following areas for initial funding to support communities most impacted by racial injustice:

Solidarity Economy and Land Justice: Collective ownership and governance whether through land, labor, housing, or cultural resources.

Mutual Aid: Neighbors and organizations working together to meet immediate needs while also challenging the systems that cause harm.

Grassroots Organizing and Infrastructure: Groups organizing and building power for themselves outside of traditional policy and advocacy arenas, including movement infrastructure.

Organizations may apply for a maximum grant of $100,000, distributed over up to five years.

Opioid Abatement Community Grants Program – Multiyear Project Grants Deadline: Wednesday, February 18, 2026, 5:00 pm ET

The Opioid Abatement Community Grants Program is funded by a portion of New Hampshire’s share of opioid settlement dollars, as directed by state law (RSA 126-A:86). It is designed to help deploy New Hampshire’s opioid settlement funding out into the community for aligned projects that prevent, reduce, and address the harms of the opioid crisis across the state.

Multiyear Project Grants of up to up to $75,000 per year are administered through a partnership between the Charitable Foundation and Granite United Way.

Wellborn Ecology Fund – School-based Project Grants Deadline: Rolling, with final submissions for 2026 by Thursday, November 19, 2026, 5:00 pm ET

The Wellborn Ecology Fund is dedicated to using “the power of place” to increase environmental and ecological science knowledge in the Upper Valley. Since 2013, the Foundation has been focusing Wellborn resources to increase access to place-based ecology education for children and youth, with particular emphasis on K-12 and early childhood education centers in underserved communities.
