Shawn Morehead leads the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, New Hampshire’s statewide community foundation and the largest private provider of nonprofit grants and student aid in northern New England. The Foundation manages charitable funds donated by hundreds of generous people and businesses, and awards more than $80 million annually in grants and scholarships.
Shawn, who has lifelong family ties to New Hampshire, joined the Foundation in 2026, bringing decades of experience working to increase educational opportunity, protect civil rights, and foster community philanthropy. Prior to joining the Foundation, she spent 15 years at the New York Community Trust, the community foundation serving New York City, Westchester, and Long Island, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief program officer helping to guide more than $60 million in annual grantmaking.
Throughout her career, Shawn has designed and led initiatives that expand opportunity and strengthen communities. She began her career as a public school teacher and later practiced law, serving as lead counsel in federal class-action litigation protecting the civil rights of public school students, including students with disabilities. As a grantmaker, she championed efforts to improve reading instruction in public schools, help young immigrants apply for deferred action, and advocate for criminal legal system reforms.
Shawn holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School and a bachelor’s from Columbia University. She has two adult daughters and lives in Concord with her dog.
