Multiyear Project Grants Frequently Asked Questions

My organization has a grant from the Charitable Foundation from an agency, designated or donor-advised fund, and/or an application grant program. Does this affect our eligibility to apply for a Multiyear Project Grant?

No, it does not affect your eligibility for this program.

My organization is not a 501(c)(3). Can I still apply for a Multiyear Project Grant?

Non-tax-exempt organizations can only apply through a fiscal sponsor which is a 501(c)(3) and which signs a fiscal sponsorship agreement as part of the application process (an agreement template is included in the application).

If an applicant is applying with a fiscal sponsor, do we use the fiscal sponsor’s financial information and list of board members?

The application will require both the applying organization and fiscal sponsor to provide financial information and names of members of their boards of directors.

If my organization serves as a fiscal sponsor for an applicant, are we eligible to submit a separate application for our own efforts?

Yes.

If my organization (or its fiscal sponsor) is a religious organization that does non-sectarian or secular work, are we eligible to apply?

Religious organizations are eligible to apply for project funding through this program to provide services that are non-discriminatory and non-sectarian and that benefit the larger community. If any treatment and/or supportive housing services are offered, the organization must be in good standing with the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services and/or the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services sanctioned certifying agency, NH Partnership for Recovery Residencies (NHPRR). Documentation of current certification will be required as part of the grant application.

What can Multiyear Project Grant funds be used for?

Multiyear Project Grants support longer-term initiatives and allow for a broad range of project-related expenses that align with the grant program parameters. Multiyear Project Grant funds may be used for things like:

  • Staff time or consultant support directly attributable to the project
  • Program supplies and materials
  • Rent, utilities, or operational costs that are directly and proportionally attributable to the project
  • Training, outreach, evaluation, or partnership activities

Multiyear Project Grants are not general operating support and may not be used to broadly underwrite an organization’s ongoing operations. However, project-related operational or infrastructure costs are allowable when they are clearly tied to and necessary for the approved work.

What are the financial and reporting expectations?

Funded organizations are expected to:

  • Use funds only for approved purposes
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for audit and compliance purposes
  • Submit periodic program and financial reports. For multiyear grantees, an interim and/or final grant report will be due according to your grant agreement. Log in to GrantSource to submit your interim and/or final report via the online portal. Please note that applicants who do not submit grant reports will not be considered for future funding.
  • Participate in learning, evaluation, or coordination activities if/when requested

My organization is focused on providing supportive housing. Are we eligible to apply?

If you are a recovery house, we recommend reaching out to the Foundation prior to completing an application.

This grant program is not intended to meet large capital needs. If you are seeking support for large capital projects, please contact the NH Housing Finance Authority’s Opioid Use Disorder Supportive Housing Capital Program. If after a discussion with Charitable Foundation staff it is determined that you are eligible to apply, the Foundation is only entertaining proposals from recovery houses who are certified and in good standing with the NH DHHS-sanctioned certifying agency, NH Partnership for Recovery Residencies (NHPRR). Documentation of current certification will be required as part of the grant application.

Can you tell me more about the “eligibility checklist” we are asked to submit when completing our profile?

The eligibility checklist is used to ensure that nonprofits applying for grants from the Charitable Foundation follow all legal requirements for New Hampshire nonprofit organizations and have implemented basic financial controls and oversight of operations. We require that all New Hampshire organizations complete the eligibility checklist, and if the answer to any question on the checklist is “no” we provide a space to provide an explanation. The eligibility checklist responses are to be certified/signed by the applying organization’s Executive Director/CEO, Board Chair, or Board Treasurer. Other staff certifications will not be accepted.

Is there a deadline for the grant funds to be used?

Granite United Way will issue all grant award letters which will state the terms of the award and any deadlines for the funds to be expended.

How much will be awarded in the Opioid Abatement Multiyear Project Grant Program?

We anticipate that $3 million will be awarded as part of this first round of grants.

Will there be a second round of Multiyear Project Grants?

Yes, based on availability of funds, we anticipate that there will be a second round of Multiyear Project Grants later this calendar year. We anticipate that an additional $3 million in funds will be awarded in the second round.
