Since 1971, Dick Couch has been chief executive officer and chairman of the board for Hypertherm, a world leader in specialized metal-cutting equipment. He has over 60 patents in the fields of plasma cutting and pollution control.
Dick co-founded Hypertherm in 1968 with Bob Dean, who was then a professor at Dartmouth College and president of Creare Incorporated. Previously, Dick worked as a project engineer at Creare.
In 2001, Dick was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and currently serves as chair of the Academy’s Mechanical Engineering Peer Committee and as a member of the Committee on Membership. Dick also sits on the Thayer School of Engineering Board of Overseers at Dartmouth College. He is a founding member of Ledyard National Bank in Hanover, NH. Dick has also served as board member and co-chair of the annual campaign for the United Way of the Upper Valley.
Dick received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Engineering from Dartmouth College
He lives in Hanover with his wife, Barbara.
