The Wellborn Ecology Fund serves to increase knowledge about the environment, ecology, and natural history of the Upper Valley through support of experientially-oriented programs that focus on the region’s people, schools, institutions, and communities.

The fund was established through a bequest by the late Marguerite Wellborn, a former Hanover resident and avid naturalist with an enduring passion for studying and protecting the natural world. Learn more about Marguerite Wellborn.

The Wellborn Ecology Fund supports programs that provide Upper Valley residents with the knowledge, experience, skills, and understanding necessary to make informed decisions and take useful actions aimed at protecting and sustaining the natural systems of the region. The fund also supports professional development and networking opportunities, newsletters, an information exchange, an annual conference, and other initiatives to build ecology-education capacity in the Upper Valley.

Since its inception in 2001, the fund has awarded nearly 200 grants, totaling more than $2.7 million.
