American Funds has established a program that allows your clients to do the right thing for themselves and their communities while you continue to earn commissions and service fees.
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation has added the American Funds as an investment option. This partnership makes it possible for you to recommend philanthropic gifts that will bring your client tax benefits without reducing your eligible assets for service fees.
How it Works:
- Any financial professional (licensed Series 6 or 7) who uses American Funds may refer a client to the Charitable Foundation and utilize the American Funds Community Foundation Program.
- Foundation staff will partner with you and your client to explore their charitable interests and identify a giving arrangement that fits with their overall estate and financial planning needs.
- Your client can utilize cash, securities, real estate or other assets to establish their fund with the Foundation.
- You select an asset allocation for your client’s gift utilizing one or a combination of
investment portfolios established by the Charitable Foundation. The financial professional completes a Gift Notification Form and returns it to our office.
- Your client authorizes the transfer of assets into a Charitable Foundation brokerage account established with your firm.
- The Foundation becomes the legal owner of the charitable assets, but contracts with American Funds Group (AFG) to manage them in accordance with the chosen asset allocation model.
Benefits of Participating:
Increase your value to your clients. Help create a charitable giving plan that maximizes tax-saving benefits for your clients. This is a valuable additional component of the financial planning service you provide.
Maintain your client relationship. You earn a commission on assets that are invested by the Foundation in the American Funds. In addition, after assets are invested for 12 months, you will receive an annual service fee for a long as those assets remain invested in the American Funds with you as the financial advisor of record. And, the commissions and service fees are paid directly from American Funds, so your client’s Fund balance is not impacted.
Raise your profile in the community. Working with the Charitable Foundation can bring you into contact with local community leaders and may result in new business opportunities from individuals, families, small businesses and corporations in and around your community.
Better your community. By encouraging your clients to work with the Charitable Foundation, you will be helping the Foundation in its mission to strengthen our communities.
