Nonprofit collaboration research
Collaboration helps nonprofits maximize their resources in order to maximize their impact. Organizations are better able to achieve their mission through more effective administration, reducing expenses, improving the quality and reach of their programs and attracting funding.

In 2009, the Foundation worked with consultant Andrea Bufka to develop a research report about nonprofit collaboration.  The report examined a range of collaboration case studies and examples that are particularly relevant for New Hampshire nonprofits. Read the report and related materials >>

Self-assessment options for nonprofits

The New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits is offering three self-assessment opportunities for New Hampshire nonprofits:

  • The Corporate Fund Board Self-assessment Questionnaire – This is an assessment for board activity only. The questionnaire asks board members to rate their activities across 12 different categories. It can be taken online and a report is quickly produced. Cost is free to N.H., M.E. and Vt. nonprofits; for out-of-state nonprofits, there is a small fee. Learn more >>
  • Core Capacity Assessment Tool – Developed by TCC Consulting Group and used by nonprofits nationwide, this online tool assesses the entire organization, not just the board. It will produce an automatic report benchmarking the nonprofit’s status against similar organizations nationally. In addition, a consultant can be available to help the organization interpret the data. Cost is $200 (discounted from the TCC rate of $300). There may be some scholarship opportunities, particularly for those organizations which are grantees of the Endowment for Health. To learn more, contact Krista Katz at kkatz@nhnonprofits.org.
  • The Nonprofit Sounding Board – Provides nonprofit board and staff leadership teams with a three-hour consultation to help them examine competing priorities, critical junctures and challenging issues with a neutral panel of experts. The sessions will be conducted by a team consisting of a Center staff member with board and leadership expertise and a nonprofit business consultant. Cost: $100 - $600 sliding scale. To learn more, contact Krista Katz at kkatz@nhnonprofits.org. This opportunity is supported by a grant from The Corporate Fund.

Another option is the Executive Service Corp. This New Hampshire branch of the national organization uses volunteers with business skills to work with nonprofits. Because of their reduced rates due to using volunteer consultants, they are able to work with nonprofits over a sustained period of time. Currently they are offering a free sustainability assessment. Learn more at www.nonprofit-consultants.org.
