The Winthrop and Bernice Perry Scholarship

Bernice Perry, a pioneer aviator, photographer and long-time area resident created this scholarship to benefit students from Wilton, Lyndeborough and Milford, N.H.
 
When to apply?
Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on March 1, 2011.
 
Who should apply?
New Hampshire residents who are:

• A current resident of Wilton, Lyndeborough or Milford, with at least two years’ residency.

• A graduating high school senior, an undergraduate or graduate student, an adult returning to school or a student involved in a vocational program.

• Planning to enroll during the 2011-2012 school year at an accredited post-secondary institution, including technical college (but not trade school) or two- or four-year college or university on a half-time (6+ credits) or full-time basis.

Selection criteria
Students must be motivated and demonstrate potential for success in their chosen field. Other factors used to evaluate candidates will include: involvement in school and community life, voluntary service, exceptional commitment to an activity or endeavor, and financial need. However, first preference in choosing recipients is given to those students who are residents of Wilton and have attended a local public or private high school.
 
Award availability
In 2011, it is anticipated that approximately $40,000 will be available for a limited number of awards. It is the intention of the fund to make few awards of significant size rather than many smaller awards.
 
Award decisions
A small number of finalists may be invited for a face-to-face interview. Interviews will be held on Saturday, April 9, 20101. Candidates must reserve this date. No other date will be scheduled for interviews. Final award decisions are made in April.
 
Special requirement
This application requires two letters of recommendation and finalists must provide financial aid packages from the school they are considering attending.
