Frank and Olive Gilman Foundation Scholarship
Frank Gilman grew up on a farm in Chelsea, Vt. He attended Chelsea School, graduated from Springfield High School and, as an adult, lived in Hartford. He was an ambitious entrepreneur and achieved financial success through the chance merger of his White River Junction lumber company with a larger company in the early 1970s and through his land-leasing business,Valley Land Corporation, where his wife was treasurer.
Although the Gilmans did not go to college, they had a keen appreciation of the importance of higher education for young people facing very different career choices. The Gilmans created the Frank M. and Olive E. Gilman Foundation to provide scholarship opportunities to students whose families could not otherwise afford college costs.
